Schedule a District Meeting

Meeting with your elected officials in their district offices is a highly effective way to engage in grassroots advocacy. Unlike busy lobby days, these meetings offer more time to discuss critical issues and build meaningful relationships in a more personalized setting.

How to Prepare for an Effective In-District Meeting

PHA staff is ready to assist you in coordinating meetings with your elected officials at their district offices. However, you can arrange the meeting on your own, following these steps:

  1. Find Your Elected Officials using the Legislative Action Center search tool.
  2. Locate the District Office on your elected official’s official website or through the Legislative Action Center.
  3. Use Our Sample Script to guide your phone call:

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m your constituent calling from [CITY].

I am calling to set up a meeting with Senator/Representative [LAST NAME] to discuss the current needs of home-based care providers. What is Senator/Representative [LAST NAME’s] availability to meet in [HIS/HER] district office or another convenient location in the district?

[If the staff person asks for additional information, provide a short summary on the issues using the resources and talking points provided here.]

Thank you for setting up this meeting. I look forward to talking with Senator/Representative [LAST NAME] on [DATE/TIME] at [LOCATION].

4. Prepare for Your Meeting by reviewing PHA’s key issues. This will help you present a well-informed and persuasive case.

5. Contact Us for Additional Support if you need further assistance. Don’t hesitate to contact our team!

6. Keep PHA Updated by emailing [email protected] to let us know the outcome of your visit. Your feedback helps us understand the impact of our advocacy efforts and improves our collaborative approach.
